Financial Services, Speaker and Coach

First impressions are important for everyone in business, especially financial advisors. But etiquette – or lack thereof – can kill sales. Yes, it IS important how you meet people, introduce yourself, entertain or be entertained. A story is told of a large money management firm, (who shall go unnamed) that chose to not hire a portfolio manager because of two thing that occurred at dinner:

  • He used the wrong bread plate.
  • He salted his meal before tasting the food. (If you won’t take the time to taste food before you salt it, will you go the extra mile when researching a company?)table_setting02

Is this over the top? Does it really matter if someone uses the wrong fork or glass? Maybe, maybe not, but as a mentor once told me, “If there is any doubt, the is no doubt.” So play it safe and represent yourself and your firm well.
